Job Description:


Welders use welding procedures to join metal components per blueprint specifications.

Duties Summary/Responsibilities
Weld or join metal components, fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products using hand welding or flame-cutting equipment
Weld components in flat and horizontal positions
Gouge and clean metal pieces
Use the optimum welding technique to ensure minimal misfit or correction of misalignments (considering quality and quantity of weld deposits)
Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment using the various processes
Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as grinder, chipper, die
Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter
Remove rough spots from workpieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers
Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods according to welding chart specifications, or types and thicknesses of metals
Signal crane operators to move large workpieces
Any other related duties as instructed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Completion of a welding program; OR Minimum 4,000 hours (2 years) of relevant welding experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved; OR A combination of minimum 2,000 hours (1 year) of relevant welding experience and training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
Industry Certifications for AWS (American Welding Society) and CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) [PREFERRED]
Meets the requirements and perform the duties of a [Welder
Level C] with ease and in a knowledgeable, skilled and competent manner
Proficient with Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) and Metal arc welding (GMAW)
Combines speed of execution and quality workmanship in complex welds
Masters all four welding process positions
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, welding codes and symbols.
Knows how to safely and adequately operate overhead traveling cranes
Ability to work with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to perform the following activities and sustain for varying lengths of time: stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, kneel and stoop on a constant basis. Must be able to use hands to reach out of power zone in order to operate welding equipment, sort parts, and operate various types of electric and pneumatic power tools. May also occasionally have to assume awkward postures while operating welding equipment, power tools or cleaning welds or prepping areas. Ability to fully articulate Shoulder, elbow, hand, and wrist. Must have the ability to grasp and sustain grip on power tools such as but not limited to: 9" & 4" grinders, needle guns, belt sanders etc. for extended periods of time. Often lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; use hands, arms and upper body on a frequent basis. Ability to perform work in variable climate conditions such as but not limited to, hot, cold, dusty, noisy etc. May also be required to wear appropriate respiratory protection should the need arise.
