The Montana Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for our _Marketing Development & Communications Specialist _in Great Falls. Posted until filled with first review of applications occurring on June 9,2021. At the Department of Agriculture, our mission is to protect producers and consumers, and to enhance and develop agriculture and allied industries. We manage more than 30 programs, from marketing and business development to licensing and regulating activities to protecting agricultural producers. The Agricultural Development Division's goal is to administer programs that promote and enhance Montana agriculture. The Montana Wheat and Barley Bureau is responsible for promoting and encouraging scientific and practical research in all phases of wheat and barley production, marketing and processing under the policies developed by the Wheat and Barley Committee. Job Overview: This position is responsible for the administration of the market development activities the MWBC (Montana Wheat & Barley Committee) engages in, as well as content development and communications efforts for the MWBC. Primary obligations include planning and implementation of domestic marketing and international trade efforts aimed at increasing purchases of Montana grown wheat and barley. The incumbent manages communications and outreach efforts of the Committee. As a Market Development & Communications Specialist you will:Enhance producer awareness of varietal selection and wheat quality to meet customer expectations and international export competition.Support market information and public relations with reports and presentations to producers and buyers by staying up to date on current global trends and issues in agriculture, including, but not limited to, trade policy.Coordinate crop quality surveys, sourcing, and shipping wheat samples with proper documentation for various countries and assisting with programs to enhance Montanas wheat and barley quality.Develop strategic marketing and communications plans with the Executive Vice President and work with MWBC staff to implement and monitor these efforts.Create marketing collateral, audio, video, social media, and website content to showcase the story of Montana agriculture.Monitor and report on website and social media analytics, and work with Social Media Manager to Responsible for developing content for trade team visits and presentations for a variety of audiences foreign and domestic. /Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:/ Knowledge of:The U.S. and foreign grain industry policies, boards of trade, grain industry structure, export markets, research principles, statistical methods, analysis, and marketing.Small grain production, utilization, processing, marketing, transporting, and storing all gained through education or experience. Skills in:Communication and problem-solving.Computer and web design. Ability to:Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, grain producers, trade, the public, government officials, university personnel, and the public.Analyze, evaluate, prioritize, make informed suggestions.Respond on short notice to immediate crisis situations, predict or forecast patterns based on research and contacts, develop and organize educational/informational programs on a variety of topics from wheat and barley nutrition to non-food uses of Montana grain.Understand basics of market analysis principles, statistical methods, and accurate reporting.Understand the need for confidentiality and besensitive to controversial situations and opposing viewpoints.Make informed decisions regarding educational & informational programs to include a variety of wheat & barley topics. /Minimum Qualifications:/Bachelors degree in one of the following fields of study: Communications, Agri-Business, Marketing, Agricultural Economics, Journalism, Agricultural Sciences, or related agricultural field of study.Three years work experiences in a related agricultural and/or communications field.Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. /Benefits:/ Your paycheck is just part of your total compensation package!
