Job Description:

The Manager oversees and monitors the daily activities and functions of the residents' health and medical services to ensure residents' needs and established community standards for quality are met. Oversight of the services is to be based in compliance with all federal and state regulation and guidelines and in accordance with the policy and procedures of the Assisted Living community. The Manager participates in the investigation and preparation of reports relative to the improvement of care, safety issues and staff evaluation for the unit. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day functions of the Residents' Health Services in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern Assisted Living facilities. Participates in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the residents' services. Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the resident's total regimen of care. Ensures that all nursing personnel are following their respective job descriptions. Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc. as necessary. Participates in the maintenance and implementation of the facility's quality improvement program for the Service Line. Participates in Surveys by authorized government agencies. Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the Vice President as necessary and/or required concerning the operation of the Facilities' Programs and Services. Assists in reviews periodically of the department's policy and procedure manual, job descriptions, etc. and makes recommendations for change to the Vice President. Follows facility protocols when discussing management issues and concerns. Fosters cooperation and teamwork with all staff members. Coordinates and manages the on-call services during off-hours. Performs resident assessments as needed and required. Prepares capital and operating budgets for areas of responsibility and submits them to the Vice President. Is responsible for annual program revenues of about 5 million and operational budget of about 4 million Participates in and attends various committees under the direction of the Vice President; i.e. Quality Improvement, Management Council, etc. Assists in preparing written and/or oral reports of the Resident Service Programs and Life Enrichment to submit to appropriate committees and councils as directed. Coordinates and participates in Care Planning for Resident Care in collaborative with Clinical Staff and Management. Evaluates and implements recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to resident services. Ensures that a sufficient number of Licensed and Unlicensed Staff are scheduled for all shifts to ensure that nursing care is provided to meet the daily care needs of each resident and that quality care is maintained. Completes Performance Evaluations as directed. Makes daily rounds of work areas to ensure all personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable resident care standards. Fosters an atmosphere of growth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility. Involved with investigation of complaints and grievances made or filed by personnel or residents related to department functions. Makes appropriate reports to and for the Vice President as required or as may be necessary. Completes counseling for corrective actions and performs any follow-up as needed. Interprets the facility's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as necessary. Maintains effective communication with staff and other departmental managers. Assists staff in establishing priorities in resident care activities. Investigates and follows-up on the availability of adequate material and supplies according to resident needs. Responds immediately to all crisis or calls for assistance. Participates in the interviewing and selection of residents for admission to the facility. Assesses the nursing needs of the resident and collaborates with the Clinical Manager's assessments to meet those needs. Reviews Nurses' Notes to ensure they are informative and descriptive of the level of care being provided and that they reflect the resident's response to care. In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, monitors medication passes and treatment schedules to assure medications are being administered as ordered and treatments are provided as scheduled. Reports problem or concern areas to the Vice President. Assists Primary Care and Consulting Physicians regarding in-house/in-home visits. Performs weekly rounds and reviews documentation according to Federal and State Guidelines in accordance with the "community's" policies. Monitors department personnel to assure they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies and adhere to reporting of hazardous conditions and equipment. Ensures that department personnel participate in and conduct all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in a safe and professional manner. Develops, implements, and maintains the infection control program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among the residents and personnel. Ensures that nursing/clinical personnel follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary. Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of the procedures for reporting hazardous conditions or equipment. Recommends to the Vice President the equipment and supply needs of the department. Participates in the implementation of the procedures for the safe operation of all clinical equipment. Monitors nursing procedures to ensure that nursing and/or clinical care supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste. Participates in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the clinical needs of each resident as necessary. Participates in the development of a written plan of care (preliminary and comprehensive) fro each resident identifying the problems/needs of the resident, indicating the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care. Reviews the assessments in collaboration with the clinical staff to be presented and discussed at each committee meeting and/or care conference. Reviews Nurses' Notes in collaboration with the clinical leader to determine if the Care Plan is being followed. Develops and maintains a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan for the Resident to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing the resident's comprehensive care plan. Ensures that all personnel involved in providing care to the resident is aware of the care plan and the care plan is used in administering daily care to the resident. Performs resident assessments per State guidelines and per the "community" policy and procedure. Assists the Vice President in planning and conducting other functions/duties as directed. Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations. Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict. Professional Requirements: Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department. Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures. Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.
Three to Five Years of Management Experience preferred, preferably in Senior Living Communities

CASP Certification Preferred
