Supervises and coordinates activities of clinical and non-clinical department staff. Prepares work schedules and expedites work flow. Responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the department. Responsible for preparing and managing the department budget. Responsible for managing and monitoring quality, safety, and financial performance metrics. Serves as liaison between provider needs and clinical resources. Keeps the providers informed of both progress and potential problems. Responsible for the direction and evaluation of patient care delivery. Responsible for the daily operations of one or more departments as assigned. FLSA: EXEMPT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for interviewing, hiring and firing of staff for the department/clinic. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational goals and objectives. Provides for professional growth and development of patient care staff through identification of needs, sponsoring training programs, encouraging education (formal and continuing) efforts and evaluation of same. Responsible for completion of regular performance evaluations for each staff member; conducts evaluations for new staff prior to completion of probationary period. Counsels employees, develops staff and, as appropriate, utilizes the disciplinary process. Monitors patient and provider scheduling. Ensure adequate and appropriate staff mixes within the department. Responsible for safety and comfort of patients, and the health and safety of staff. Maintains an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Collaborates with ancillary support services to provide a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors. Responsible for resolving patient complaints. Works with the business department to coordinate and direct the patient accounting functions in order to consistently produce accurate bills which are paid in a timely manner. Assists to develop, justify and maintain a fiscal plan (budget) for the department. Assists the business office to monitor patient revenues, expenses and operating expenses (salaries and capital expense items) and provide appropriate reports to Administration. Monitors utilization of equipment and supplies; orders supplies as needed. Effectively maintains all required records for the department; demonstrates good organizational skills. Plans and conducts staff meetings. Works with the medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care. Participates in performance improvement, including utilization and promotion of familiarization with performance improvement standards and programs. Assumes the role of patient advocate respecting guidelines found in the Patient Bill of Rights. Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs; attends meetings, workshops to enrich personal knowledge, growth and management skills. Serves as a resource to others. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Fosters good public relations for the department/clinic. Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Communicates appropriately and clearly to providers, staff, and administrative team. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Maintains good working relationships both within the clinic and with other departments. Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. Manages and monitors performance activities for the department. Manages and monitors revenue cycle elements for the department. Manages and monitors compliance with policies and applicable regulations for the department. Provides education to providers and staff on performance improvement, revenue cycle, and compliance matters. Professional Requirements: Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department. Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures. Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines. Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in nursing, business, or healthcare related field. Three years' management/supervisory experience in a healthcare setting. A Master's degree in healthcare or business is preferred and may be substituted for some experience. Language Skills: Able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Other Skills: Basic computer knowledge, data entry and/or word processing. Demonstrates leadership skills. Public speaking and presentations. Data collection, analysis, and reporting.
