Job Description:

The Director of Nursing -(DON) -for Senior Services is part of the leadership team -and oversees clinical operations of the Benefis Ssenior Care Center, the Transitional -Care Cottages and Westview on the West Campus. - - -This person is responsible for the implementing of the organizational and the departmental mission, vision and goals. -The DON is responsible for all aspects of nursing, i.e. staff management, departmental management and creating a professional practice environment that focuses on the customer and also provides Nursing Practice oversight in Assisted Living. -. -Administrative responsibilities include: annual work plan development, budget preparation, performance reviews, quality improvement programs, professional development programs for the staff and preparation/maintenance of regulatory requirements such as CMS/OSHA. -The DON is responsible for communicating -to the staff and other members of the healthcare and administrative team. -The DON is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Staff, Petients/Residents and family -within Senior Services. -FLSA: EXEMPT - -DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Organizes programs, policies and procedures developed -to assess, evaluate and meet the needs of the resident.Implements standards of nursing practice reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice and resident population.Addresses and supports cultural practices as long as such practices do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of medical therapy.Provides clear, concise and current written policies and procedures are available to assist the staff and minimize risk factors.Recommends modifications, additions or deletions to nursing staffing plans to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide optimal patient care coverage.Initiates and participates in problem solving, policy forming conferences for patient care services. -Maintains close coordination with all departments to insure continuity and collaboration of services.Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.Participates with the Governing Body, management, medical staff and clinical leaders in decision-making process.Plans and recommends to Executive Director new facilities or equipment or modifications thereto needed to provide resident care.Serves as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to resident care.Participates in the Executive, Finance, Governing Body and medical staff departmental meetings.Plans and coordinates with the Executive Director , utilizing the respective service managers for planning the budgeting requirements for personnel, performance of work, supplies and equipment.Responsible for cost controls to insure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from approved departmental budgetsImplements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients.Ensurs each nursing department's performance improvement goals interfaces with and supports the nursing department performance improvement program.The results of each department's performance improvement activities are reported to the respective medical staff committees and to the hospital wide performance improvement committee.Assures that nursing leaders review monthly performance improvement compliance with established indicators and sees that corrective actions are taken when negative outcomes are identified.Collaborates with system leaders in developing, implementing, reviewing, revising and monitoring hospital wide performance improvement activities.Exercises final authority over those associated with providing nursing care, treatment and services.Develops and implements nursing staffing plans for the organization.Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.Graduate of an accredited college of nursing.Current license by this state as a registered nurse.A minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in nursing.Master's degree in nursing or related field preferred.Minimum one (1) to three (3) years prior experience in geriatric nursing staff role.Minimum of three (5) years experience in acute or long term care management -preferred.
